May 19-22, 2008 - Portals & Collaboration Conference - San Diego

I am pleased to announce that I will be speaking at the Portals & Collaboration Conference this May 2008 in San Diego California.  First and foremost, I would like to than the Institute for International Research (IIR) for accepting my session submittals.  I have attended this conference in the past, and SharePoint wasn't mentioned.  The IIR accepting my sessions, which are focused on Microsoft SharePoint Technologies, is a testimonial to the growth SharePoint has had in the industry.

I am hoping to see you there!

UPDATE 5/21/2008

“Real World” Project Collaboration Solutions Using Microsoft SharePoint
Bob Mixon, Principal and Senior Information Architect, Mixon Consulting

Microsoft SharePoint is quickly becoming an industry standard with regards to a platform for building highly-scalable collaboration solutions. In this session you will learn how Microsoft SharePoint can be used as a secure collaboration platform for both technical and non-technical projects. In addition, I will show you how to manage to-do’s, tasks, issues, risks and project documents all without having to write a single line of code.

Key Topics Covered:

  • How SharePoint technologies can be used to provide a secure environment for project collaboration.
  • How to manage project artifacts such as to-do’s, tasks, issues, risks and documents using “out of the
    box” SharePoint features.
  • How to “roll-up” information across multiple project sites, providing a dashboard to view all tasks,
issues and risks assigned to you.
  • How Microsoft Project Server 2007 can be integrated with your SharePoint collaboration environment to
provide a holistic view of all project artifacts.

Content Categorization and Classification – Building a Taxonomy for SharePoint
Bob Mixon, Principal and Senior Information Architect, Mixon Consulting

Two key success factors of any Intranet solution is to make it simple for authors and contributors to create and upload content, and for consumers to quickly find information they are looking for. To succeed, you must first plan how that information will be structured and where it will be stored. This process is part of Information Architecture known as content classification and categorization. In this session I will demonstrate practices I have used to successfully gather information requirements from LOB users, how to document those requirements and how they can be applied to a “real world” Intranet implementation.

Key Topics Covered:

  • Best practices for working with your customers to gather information requirements.
  • An approach for documenting your corporate taxonomic structure.
  • An approach for documenting your Intranet site structure.
  • How to apply content categorization and classification using Microsoft SharePoint products and
    technologies.
